Who We Are

NCYC Junior Sail Camp is a summer full day camp featuring children-only sailing instruction geared for ages 7 to 15 years old. Our summer staff is comprised of experienced US SAILING certified instructors and several junior assistants who will insure a fun and safe learning experience by combining classroom instruction with games and lots of time on the water sailing. By adding lots of fun, we can ensure an enjoyable and instructive experience with SUCCESS for ALL AGES of young sailors. We limit the size of each class in order to offer each junior sailor a lot of personalized instruction.

What is a Sailcamp like?

Our four and five-day programs allow kids to learn the importance of water safety, build confidence, make new friends, and enjoy the fun of sailing.
Our Instructors will separate the students into a beginner group and an intermediate group according to skill level and ability. Beginner instruction will focus on water safety skills, rigging and derigging boats, nautical terms, knots, and elementary sailing skills. In the intermediate class, the emphasis will be on building the child's confidence in boat handling skills, including skippering the boat, learning sail trim and learning the sailing "rules of the road".
Students are invited and encouraged to participate in as many sessions as possible.
On Friday of every session, there is a cookout at 4pm. Boats will remain rigged and your junior sailor can demonstrate what they’ve learned throughout the week. We supply the hamburgers, hot dogs and chips and ask for each family to bring something to share.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SAIL CAMP

Junior sailors will need a US Coast Guard approved life jacket with an attached whistle. All sailors are required to pass a swimming test on the first day of camp. The test consists of swimming a short distance with their life jacket on and then treading water for 30 seconds with the life jacket off.
