Who we are

NCYC Junior Race Team is a group dedicated to taking our sailing skills to the next level through exploring the world of racing. Many unique practice, regatta, clinic, and social opportunities are provided throughout our summer season. We participate in the I-LYA Traveler's Series to provide our juniors with camaraderie, growth, and experience. Team members will have the chance to see beautiful parts of Michigan and Ohio and even spend a week on Put-in-Bay for the annual Junior Bay Week regatta. See http://i-lya.org/ for more information. Team members will work together to learn valuable skills that can instill confidence both on and off the water. Our coaching staff is US Small Boat Sailing Certified, US Safe Powerboat Handling Certified, and CPR/First Aid certified. They work to ensure our team is safe, having fun, and improving. The Junior Race Team provides friendships and time for family bonding as sailors network in this amazing sporting community.

How will your skills improve?

The Junior Race Team will provide on and off the water instruction on several topics, including boat handling, safety, boat preparation and care, strategy and tactics, and boat speed. With Tuesday and Thursday practices, beginning at 4:00 pm, team members have plenty of practice in rigging/derigging quickly, skipper/crew communication, and other elements of racing. Team members may choose their preferred sailboat from our selection of boats and equipment. We provide 420's, Lasers, and Optimists.
