Who We Are

At North Cape we have an active cruising fleet made up of a broad and diverse cross section of our club's population. From families to retirees and from single-handers to couples, from smaller boats to larger ones, we enjoy the ports-of-call we visit and we enjoy each other. Regardless of your sailing and cruising experience we have several planned cruising activities each season that will satisfy the interests and needs of most sailors - whether it be for a weekend Getaway or a week-plus vacation.

What Is North Cape Cruising About...
It's about the PEOPLE, the PLACES, the FRIENDS, and the SAILING!

"...Whether biking, strolling around the port, playing a game, enjoying a potluck, dining out or walking for the famous after-dinner ice cream cones, it was always a good time. And that is because everyone is so friendly and willing to help out when necessary. If you haven't gone cruising with the group, give it a try! After just one cruise, you'll feel like you've known everyone for 20 years too!" (Julia Griffith, a 20 year+ North Cape cruiser)

"I liked being on the club cruises with all the boats in our fleet docked together in a group, it gave you a sense of belonging. I also liked being with the North Cape cruising group out in the evening for dinner or ice cream because of the feeling of community it gave you." (Jonathan Wesley - now 21 - reflecting back on his North Cape Yacht Club cruising experiences as a young teen)

Cruising Fleet On-The-Lakes Activities...

  • North Cape Summer Cruise

  • The annual NCYC Summer Club Cruise is an 8 to 10-day cruise held in late June that makes port calls at 4 to 5 ports around western Lake Erie. Some of the ports we typically visit on the Summer Cruise are Put-In-Bay, Pelee Island, Kelleys Island, Huron, Vermilion, Sandusky, and Port Clinton.
  • Middle Bass Island Weekend Getaway Cruise

  • A 3-day weekend Getaway cruise, we spend a quiet weekend at the Middle Bass Island State Park Marina, exploring the island, visiting friends at MBI Yacht Club, and enjoying the company of good friends within our own cruising fleet.
  • Labor Day Weekend Cruise

  • This holiday weekend cruise to Leamington (Ontario, Canada) has been a popular North Cape cruising event for nearly two decades. It's a great sail to Leamington, the view from the marina's patio is beautiful, the hospitality is terrific, and between the town, the beach, and Point Pelee Provincial Park there's plenty to do.
  • Fall Getaway Cruise

  • In September when the vibrant fall colors are beginning to show, and before the fall boat haul-outs start, we try to get one more weekend cruise in. It may be a short sail up to one of our neighboring yacht clubs at the southern end of the Detroit River or a port on the northern shore of Ohio. Wherever it is, it's sure to be a good time spent to together with friends.

Cruising Fleet Activities Around-The-Club (and beyond)...

  • Weekend potluck dinners when the cruising fleet is home at North Cape
  • Join in and volunteer supporting club dinners and fundraising events
  • "Deck The Cape" - The North Cape Cruising Fleet hosts this annual holiday event during which we dress-out the club in its holiday finery.
  • NCYC Annual Winter Rendezvous at The Three Fisherman in N. Ft. Myers, FL
