Race for Hope

May 26, 2020

Race For Hope Update;

We are till looking forward to June 13th as Seventeenth annual Race For Hope.  The plan is to hold the usual afternoon race with skipper’s discretion on crew (notice of race and race instructions to be posted online soon).  We will have a silent auction with a twist.   The plan is to have all items viewable on a digital basis and bidding to be done online/text messaging.  This way we will not be handling pens or pencils or paper.  We are still working on the physical display logistics biased on state guidelines.

There will be food and beverage available for all involved as “grab and go” stations so you may choose to enjoy as much as you wish on your schedule.  There will be no cost for either, we would appreciate donations if possible. There will be no formal gathering, and a tent will be covering the patio in the event of inclement weather allowing a covering for food pick up.

We intend to follow all protocols and procedures to keep everyone safe.  We understand this will be a very different race year and we acknowledge some may choose not to participate for very respectable reasons. Our club family has always found a way to overcome any challenge presented and I am confident we will overcome this challenge.  We must “never five up the ship” or the fight against cancer, we must continue to be hopeful for a bright future.  Now more than ever we need to stand together at a safe distance and continue the fight, The American Cancer Society needs to continue to support young researchers in their quest for a cure, advocate for the silent fighters and support the caregivers.  The Victory Center needs to continue its mission of providing much needed therapies and support services for those battling and caring for the patients.  Race For Hope must go on and do what it does.

 We need everyone’s support in some way, maybe some Sponsors will be hard pressed to contribute, we are happy to raise what we can.  Last year we raised over $20,000 and we were able to split that with the ACS and The Victory Center.  The silent auction proceeds will go to the Cancer Society, so we will try to balance the other monies raised between the Victory Center and the ACS.

So, we ask for everyone’s support, Hope must remain in all of our hearts and minds.  We are a great community that has tackled many unsurmountable challenges bringing us closer to one another.  We will persevere and overcome and enjoy many future sunsets at North Cape celebrating many more birthdays as we sail to victory over Cancer.

Be Well, be Safe and Sail fast!
